Dance Branch
The Ojai Art Center celebrates its 85th anniversary this year with a series of events, including a Tribute Dance honoring Boyd Dron in February. Dron played a pivotal role in leading Folk Dance in the ‘70s and Contra Dance in the ‘80s at the Ojai Art Center.
The Tribute Contra Dance will be held on Sunday, February 11th from 7 to 10 p.m., with a Free Beginners’ Workshop at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature live music by Chris Murphy & the Silver Mountain String Band, including Alex Balderstrom. Caller Susan Michaels will lead the dance with her inimitable humor & fun-spirited energy, turning a series of simple steps into flowing contra dances.
"The Ojai Art Center’s 85th year-long celebration prompted me to honor my late husband, Boyd Dron, as he played a significant role in the Art Center’s past — from watching the groundbreaking and construction of the actual building as a young boy, to serving as Dance Branch representative on the Board for 20+ years, including running the weekly folk dances in the ’70s and monthly contra dances in the ‘80s and ‘90s,” shares Karin Dron, Chair of the Dance Branch for the Ojai Art Center. “He held a great appreciation for the Art Center’s goal of offering a venue for the expression of a balance of arts within our community.” The event welcomes all ages with light refreshments provided during the break. Ticket prices are $20 for Adults, $15 for Art Center Members and $10 for Students. For more information, contact Karin at (805) 421-8778. |
